Organizations in the academic and development sector, to a large extent, believe in quietly pursuing their work, seldom publicizing what they do. However, those organizations that not only ‘do’ but also let the world know about what they do are a notch above in the eyes of stakeholders and the general public. The visibility and the positive external perception gained by such organizations help them ‘do more and achieve more’. It is not that the invisible ones do not work; it is just that the results of their work are not in the limelight that the work deserves; as a result, the organizations are largely ignored by stakeholders and the public. It is a plight with sometimes disastrous consequences: for some it may affect the very sustainability of the organization in the long run; for a few others, the full potential of the organization is never realized; and for the rest the growth is never achieved at the pace the management desires. The same is perhaps true for all organizations across all sectors—whether academic, development, or corporate.
Needless to say, there exists a communication gap, a gap that can be bridged by letting people know what you do through publishing and communicating better!
